The pages of this site are free and will stay free : an official fact belongs to no one. What is sold here is the compilation work — extracting the Kansas water use file, reconciling it, dating it, and delivering it in a usable form.
Why the stream, not the snapshot
A new year of reports lands every spring, after the 1 March deadline. A snapshot tells you where things stood; the difference between two tells you which points went quiet and which came back — and on a file where five quiet years matter legally, that difference is the signal.
What is in it
Every field measured on the delivered rows. A ⚠️ marks work we did that the source does not contain.
| Field | Description | Filled |
|---|---|---|
pdiv_id | The Survey's point-of-diversion number — the key | 100.0 % |
county | ⚠️ ⚠️ Full county name, resolved from the two-letter abbreviation against the publisher's own table. 105 of 105, no unresolved codes | 100.0 % |
district | Groundwater management district, or none | 100.0 % |
source | Groundwater or surface water | 100.0 % |
af_1990 … af_2023 | ⚠️ ⚠️ Thirty-four annual figures, DEDUPLICATED — the raw layer ships each point twice and summing it doubles the water | 100.0 % |
acres_1990 … acres_2023 | ⚠️ ⚠️ Irrigated area, same treatment | 100.0 % |
af_moy10 | Ten-year average as the publisher computes it | 53.6 % |
zeros_consecutifs | ⚠️ ⚠️ Longest run of consecutive years at 0 — a fact about the file, NOT a finding about the right | 100.0 % |
dernier_usage | ⚠️ ⚠️ Last year above nought | 55.9 % |
af_max / an_max | ⚠️ ⚠️ Highest year on file and which year | 100.0 % |
lien | Link to the official record, where the layer carries one | 53.6 % |
The 6 fields marked ⚠️ do not exist in the source : we add them — a join, a normalisation, or a reconstructed history. That is the part a buyer cannot reproduce by downloading the official file.
⚠️ zeros_consecutifs is the column most likely to
be misused. Five or more consecutive zeros is the shape of the abandonment
rule in K.S.A. 82a-718, and 43,159 points show it —
but there are no blanks in this file, four causes of non-use are recognised
in law, and abandonment requires a hearing. Anyone building on this column
must carry that forward. The full explanation.
⚠️ The coordinates are not in this dataset. They exist in the source and are deliberately not carried.
What it costs
- Change feed — USD 300 / monthOr USD 3 000 a year. At every collection, what came in, went out or changed since the previous one. This is the part that does not age.
- One slice — USD 90 / monthThe feed restricted to a single county, for those who do not need the rest.
- Full snapshot — USD 4 000, onceThe state of the register on the day of delivery, every field included. Listed last on purpose : a snapshot ages.
